Aroma compound properties in food matrices, such as volatility and diffusivity, have to be determined to understand the effect of composition and structure on aroma release and perception. This work illustrates the use of mass transfer modeling to identify diffusion and partition properties of ethyl hexanoate in water and in carrageenan matrices with various degrees of structure. The comparison of results obtained with a diffusive model to those obtained with a convective model highlights the importance of considering the appropriate transfer mechanism. Modeling of the preliminary experimental steps ensures correct estimation of the conditions for the main aroma release step. The obtained values of partition and diffusion coefficients are in agreement with those found in the literature (either experimentally determined or predicted by theoretical equations) and demonstrate that the structure level of carrageenan matrices has little influence on diffusion properties of ethyl hexanoate (less than 20%).  相似文献

以芜菁、大白菜及其杂交 1代为试材 ,系统分析了 Mg Cl2 浓度、d NTP浓度、随机引物浓度、模板 DNA用量、Taq DNA聚合酶浓度以及不同来源扩增缓冲液对 RAPD反应的影响 ,建立了一套稳定的 RAPD反应体系。该体系反应体积为 2 0μL,Mg Cl2 浓度为 1 .5mmol/L ,d NTP浓度为 2 0 0μmol/L ,随机引物浓度为 0 .4μmol/L ,模板 DNA为 2 0 ng,TaqDNA聚合酶为 6.67μmol/( L· min)。在 8种热循环条件下 ,该体系具有稳定的重现性 ,其扩增程序为 :94℃ /1′→ 36℃ /2 0″→ 72℃ /1 0″预扩增 2循环 ;94℃ /1 0″→ 36℃ /1 5″→ 72℃ /70″扩增38循环 ;72℃ /4′延伸效果最好  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the individual and combined effects of long‐term feeding of diets containing two probiotic Bacillus subtilis group strains (Aqua NZ and AP193) and the prebiotic Previda®, a commercial hemicellulose extract, on growth performance, immune parameters and Aeromonas hydrophila susceptibility of juvenile Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. Nile tilapia of average weight 7.47 ± 0.11 g were fed diets formulated with the probiotics and/or the prebiotic, or a control diet for 8 weeks and, subsequently, challenged with A. hydrophila by intragastric gavage at a dosage of 3.9 × 107 CFU per fish. Fish attained a mean weight of 59.5 ± 0.99 g at the end of the growth period. Under the conditions of the present trial, none of the diets significantly improved mean per cent weight gain (= 0.70), thermal growth coefficient (= 0.88) or feed conversion ratio (= 0.87) of Nile tilapia. Except for the diet containing the prebiotic Previda® only (= 0.17), all other diets resulted in significantly higher fish survival compared to the control (< 0.05). The combined effect of the prebiotic and probiotic strains emerged as the most important diet with respect to mortality reduction. The mean lysozyme and respiratory burst activities did not show any significant differences between treatments and control (= 0.14 and 0.32, respectively). Thus, these probiotic strains used in this study have the potential to prevent disease due to A. hydrophila in O. niloticus.  相似文献

  • 1. The iconic European common skate (Dipturus batis) has been described as the first clear case of a fish species brought to the brink of extinction by commercial fishing. Its listing was upgraded to Critically Endangered on the 2006 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. According to FAO fishery statistics, France is responsible for 60.2% of the 502 tonnes reported as ‘D. batis’ in the 2005 world landings.
  • 2. Noticeable phenotypic differences within the species and inconsistencies in published data on its sexual maturation required careful re‐examination of its taxonomy. Morphology, genetics, and life history reveal that two distinct species have been erroneously confused since the 1920s under the single scientific name D. batis. Here it is argued that they should be resurrected as two valid species. The common skate D. batis species‐complex is split into two nominal species, the blue skate (provisionally called D. cf. flossada) and the flapper skate (D. cf. intermedia) with maximum lengths of 143.2 cm and 228.8 cm respectively.
  • 3. This taxonomic confusion puts into question all previously accumulated data based on D. batis. Its endangered status highlights the need for an extensive reassessment of population collapses with accurately identified species. In 2006/2007 an extensive survey (4110 skates, 14.081 tonnes by weight) was conducted in the main French ports of the D. batis species‐complex and relatives (D. oxyrinchus, D. nidarosiensis and Rostroraja alba) that are mixed together in landings under the names ‘D. batis’ and ‘D. oxyrinchus’.
  • 4. The survey reveals that official fishery statistics mask species‐specific declines, due to the mislabelling of five species under only two landing names. Trends in landings since the 1960s and the life history of these species suggest a dramatic decline and collapse of the spawning stock, preventing the recovery of relict populations.

This study determined effects of nitrate (NO3?)‐induced stress on faecal cortisol levels in koi (Cyprinus carpio). NO3? was presented in two formats: (1) bulk increase followed by dilution to assess cortisol response and recovery and (2) bulk increase followed by incremental increases to assess cortisol response limit. Fish were maintained group‐wise in treatment and control aquaria (n=6 per group), and 0.5 g L?1 NO3? (as NaNO3) was added to the water. Faecal samples were collected daily and blood samples were taken pretreatment and 72‐h posttreatment and were assayed for cortisol via ELISA. NO3? increased plasma and faecal cortisol 4.4‐fold and 3.9‐fold respectively. Plasma cortisol was not measured further. After a 74% NO3? decrease by dilution, faecal cortisol decreased to baseline within 24 h, and restimulation by NO3? (1.0 g L?1) elevated faecal cortisol to maximal study levels. In a separate experiment, exposure to 0.4 g L?1 NO3? increased faecal cortisol 6.9‐fold. However, three additional 0.4 g L?1 NO3? increments across 9 days did not further increase cortisol. This study demonstrates that faecal cortisol measurement in fish via an ELISA can be useful as an indicator of NO3?‐induced stress in the aquatic environment.  相似文献

No‐tillage (NT) cropping systems are becoming increasingly important in the Brazilian savanna. To evaluate their sustainability we compared soil chemical properties in 1‐ to 3‐year‐old NT systems following 9 to 11 years of conventional tillage (CT) with systems where CT was continuously in place for 12 years. In the rainy season 1997/98, NT was cropped with soybean and CT with corn while in the rainy season 1998/99 both systems were cropped with soybean. Soil solid phase samples were taken from the 0—0.15, 0.15—0.3, 0.3—0.8, 0.8—1.2, and 1.2—2 m layers on three spatially separated plots under each of NT and CT. Soil solution samples were collected weekly at 0.15, 0.3, 0.8, 1.2, and 2 m soil depth during two rainy seasons (14 October to 28 April 1997/98 and 1998/99). We determined soil moisture contents, pH, the concentrations of exchangeable cations, the electrical conductivity (EC) of the soil solution, and the concentrations of Al, C, Ca, Cl, K, Mg, Mn, Na, NH4+, NO3, P, S, and Zn in solid soil and soil solution samples. Differences in soil solid phase properties and moisture content between NT and CT were small, few were significant. Under NT, the average solution pH was significantly lower (5.5), Al (26 μg l—1), Mn (17 μg l—1) and total organic C concentrations (TOC, 6.5 mg l—1) were higher than under CT (pH: 6.0, Al: 14μg l −1, Mn: 14μg l −1, TOC: 5.5 mg l −1). Irrespective of the different crops in the first rainy season, under NT, the EC (205 μS cm—1), Ca (17 mg l—1), and Mg (2.9 mg l—1) concentrations at 0—0.3 m depth were lower than under CT (EC: 224 μS cm—1, Ca: 25 mg l—1, Mg: 5.6 mg l—1). At 1.2—2 m depth, the reverse order was observed (EC: 124 μS cm—1 under NT and 84 μS cm—1 under CT, Ca: 11 mg l—1 under NT and 7.5 mg l—1 under CT, Mg: 3.1 mg l—1 under NT and 1.8 mg l—1 under CT). Our results indicate that enhanced soil acidification because of higher rates of organic matter mineralization and a more pronounced nutrient leaching because of increased pore continuity may limit the sustainability of NT.  相似文献

Fucoidans are sulfated, complex, fucose-rich polymers found in brown seaweeds. Fucoidans have been shown to have multiple bioactivities, including anti-inflammatory effects, and are known to inhibit inflammatory processes via a number of pathways such as selectin blockade and enzyme inhibition, and have demonstrated inhibition of inflammatory pathologies in vivo. In this current investigation, fucoidan extracts from Undaria pinnatifida, Fucus vesiculosus, Macrocystis pyrifera, Ascophyllum nodosum, and Laminaria japonica were assessed for modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokine production (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) by human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and in a human macrophage line (THP-1). Fucoidan extracts exhibited no signs of cytotoxicity in THP-1 cells after incubation of 48 h. Additionally, all fucoidan extracts reduced cytokine production in LPS stimulated PBMCs and human THP-1 cells in a dose-dependent fashion. Notably, the 5–30 kDa subfraction from Macrocystis pyrifera was a highly effective inhibitor at lower concentrations. Fucoidan extracts from all species had significant anti-inflammatory effects, but the lowest molecular weight subfractions had maximal effects at low concentrations. These observations on various fucoidan extracts offer insight into strategies that improve their efficacy against inflammation-related pathology. Further studies should be conducted to elucidate the mechanism of action of these extracts.  相似文献

  1. Among the several threats to the conservation of mangrove ecosystems in most South Asian countries, shrimp farming is predominant. Since the introduction of shrimp farming in Sri Lanka in the 1980s, mangroves on the island’s north-western coast have been continually cleared to create new shrimp farms, leading to a decline in the social-ecological services provided by the mangrove ecosystems.
  2. Using aerial (1973) and satellite (1996–2020) images, this study assessed areal changes in mangroves and shrimp farms in the Pambala-Chilaw lagoon complex and Ihala Mahawewa, as well as the ecological footprint of shrimp farming in the study area.
  3. Mangroves around the Chilaw lagoon had decreased in areal extent by 45% from 1973 to 2020 of which 92% of this change was attributed to shrimp farming. There was, however, a decrease in the areal extent of shrimp farms from 2001 to 2020, and a corresponding increase in mangroves from 2006 to 2020.
  4. The ecological footprint of shrimp farming was assessed by comparing the expected surface ratios with those recorded for shrimp farms with mangroves and surface water bodies in the study area from 1973 to 2020. The results showed that the current shrimp farming was unsustainable (i.e. high ecological footprint).
  5. While the results support the current view that there is cause for cautious optimism with mangrove conservation (as evidenced by an increase in mangrove areal extent), it also reveals that semi-intensive shrimp farming in Sri Lanka and probably other similar tropical countries is unsustainable.
  6. If immediate actions such as effective regulation of shrimp farming activities and mangrove restoration are not taken, the mangrove ecosystem will continue to decline.

The diversity of predatory species plays a key role in ecosystem functioning but our understanding of the mechanisms underlying their coexistence is limited, particularly in freshwater ecosystems. Northern pike Esox lucius, European perch Perca fluviatilis and pikeperch Sander lucioperca are three widespread predatory species in European lakes, where they often coexist. As potential competitors, we hypothesised that partitioning habitat is a determinant of species coexistence. This was tested by quantifying the variability of their habitat use in tracking adult individuals in the Bariousses reservoir (France, 86.6 ha, mean depth 7.1 m). Specifically, we investigated their distribution along the littoral–pelagic and depth axes along the daily cycle and across seasons. From littoral to pelagic waters were first found pike, then perch and finally pikeperch. Pike was the closest to the surface while pikeperch was the deepest. This general pattern was, however, variable across seasons with the three species located in the upper layer in summer during reservoir stratification. Individuals were more evenly distributed along the littoral–pelagic axis and closer to the bottom when water was mixing (autumn, winter). In summer, perch used more intensively in the pelagic zone during the daytime. Other species did not show any diel change of habitats. Our results highlighted that species coexistence is associated with habitat partitioning among these three predators, with perch showing a more variable behaviour regarding habitat characteristics. Now more than ever, in the context of global change which modifies habitats, it is of crucial importance to understand the coexistence mechanisms of species that shape ecosystems.  相似文献
